Not To Be Used With Horses Wearing Shoes!

Reduce waste on your field round bales with this deluxe extra slow feed round bale net. This next generation netting is machine knotted for extra strength and durability. The knots are fixed and wont slide, reducing stretching and pulling.

The super slow feed 1 1/2" square holes promote a more natural way of feeding, reducing waste, and slowing down a horse's eating, which is better for their health. Gives the horses a 24/7 option to eat when other forage is unavailable, mimicking their grazing nature. Keeps them from pawing the hay down and stomping it into the ground or making a bed out of it! NOTE: Round bale feeders not recommended for horses with shoes.

It fits up to 6'' x 6' round bales and is made of durable poly cording. It will quickly pay for itself by significantly reducing waste.

How To Cover Bale:

  • METHOD #1: If using heavy equipment, as pictured below, you can cover the bale with the net while it is suspended up off the ground at a workable level. Find the bottom of the hay net and start wrapping the bale to completely cover the bottom and pull up over the sides. Set the bale down and pull the rest of the net over the top and cinch up the drawstring. Position the bale in the field in either fashion; on its side or top/bottom. Tie off the excess drawstring and pull it through inside the net.
  • METHOD #2: Place the bale where you will be leaving it for consumption. Flip the bale over so the bottom side is up, Find the bottom of the net and drape it over and pull down along the sides. Flip the bale over on its bottom and stretch the rest of the net up to the top. Cinch the drawstring up tight, tie off, and hide the excess inside the netted bale.

    We now have five of these that are in daily use. We have a colt starting operation so none of the horses have shoes. Consequently we have not prioritized enclosing any of the netted round bales in skirted rings. Though we do plan on that just to keep them off the nets and hay when it gets to the end of the bale. Currently we manage them by redistributing the hay within the net and tightening the loose netting with the tie and or big clips. It’s been quite a few months and so far so good. We have a bunch of easy keepers so the slow feed is just right.

    The smaller holes slowed down my fat horses hay intake. I got 2 more days off of a 4 foot round bale with 2 horses and a donkey. Seems to be very sturdy and tough!

    What a great purchase!! The barn where I board went to round bales in our horses paddocks this winter. Each paddock has 2-3 horses, my two are in their own. They began the round bales at the end of October. I have 2 14.2 hand, 19 year old Arabians, both easy keepers. Don't have to tell you within a few weeks I watched their weights go up quickly with the free feeding. I researched round bale slow feeders and found this one on my search on the Chick site. As usual not disappointed in the quality and the results! It slowed my boys down and have a lot less waste of hay for the owner. It was an extremely reasonably priced net and was delivered in the Chicks timely manner. Thanks again Chicks!
